Yooo!
My name is Ben Buaron, Israeli Founder š®š± of Windmill Growth, currently 7 months 2 weeks into the process.
Quick question - take a look at this LinkedIn post below:
Would you smash that "see more" button? Be honest...
If youāre wondering why I askedā¦
In today's newsletter, we're going to be talking aboutā¦ š„
HOOKS!
Letās dive in.
LinkedIn Lesson of the Week š±
In case you didnāt knowā¦
Hooks are everything on LinkedIn.
You could have the most fire content in the world, but if your hook is weak... nobody's gonna see it.
That's just facts.
Why?
You've got about 2 seconds. That's it.
In those 2 seconds, your hook needs to make someone stop mindlessly scrollingā¦
And think "damn, I need to read this."
It's literally the make-or-break moment for your entire post.
But here's what makes it even spicier - that "see more" button isn't just some random feature.
It's LinkedIn's way of measuring if your content is worth showing to more people.
More clicks = more reach. It's that simple.
The secret?
Make it personal.
Use "I" and "We" - because people connect with people, not brands.
They want to hear YOUR story, YOUR failures, YOUR wins.
And please, for the love of everything holy, keep it snappy. Nobody's trying to read your whole life story in the first three lines.
Hereās what 99% of people do wrong when writing hooks:
1. The "I'm So Professional" Trap
Ex: "As a thought leader in the digital transformation space..." instant scroll past
Nobody. Cares.
Instead, try: "I just lost $50k on a failed product launch..."
Why: People immediately connect with vulnerability and real failures - plus it makes them curious about how to avoid the same mistake.
2. The "Mystery Box" B.S.
Ex: "I discovered something SHOCKING today..."
Then make people click to find out it's some basic advice everyone knows.
Come on bruh.
Instead, try: "LinkedIn engagement is dying - here's the data to prove it"
Why: Leading with data and a bold statement makes people want to validate or challenge your claim, driving engagement through the roof.
3. The Guru Formula
Ex: "How I made 6 figures in my sleep using this ONE weird trick..."
Stop. Just stop.
Instead, try: "Started with $250, almost went broke, now at $500k ARR. Here's what I learned:"
Why: People love real stories and this hook tells a complete story arc in one line - from struggle to success - making people want to learn how you did it.
So, before you hit publish on your next postā¦
Run it through this quick checklist to make sure your hook actually works.
Quick reminders for your next post:
Lead with numbers (people love data)
Call out common BS in your industry
Share actual Ls (failures hit differently)
Make bold statements (back them up tho)
Test different hooks and watch your analytics
Use emojis strategically (don't go crazy)
Keep it fresh - surprise people sometimes
And what to avoid at all costs:
Generic "thought leadership" BS
Keyword stuffing like a robot
Clickbait that doesn't deliver
Preaching instead of connecting
Writing a novel in your hook
The secret sauce?
Be human. Be real. And for the love of god, stop trying to sound like a LinkedIn influencer.
