Why Your "Failed" LinkedIn Posts Are Actually Working

your LinkedIn lurkers are worth more than likes

Yo!

Ben Buaron here, Israeli Founder 🇮🇱 of Windmill Growth, currently 10 months into the process.

You ever feel like your LinkedIn posts are falling into a black hole?

You craft the perfect content, hit publish, and... crickets.

One of my clients felt that same way and wanted to churn…

I asked for feedback and he said,

“I’m getting inbound clients from people who saw my content but I feel like my impressions aren’t high enough” (1.5k-2.5k per post).

He missed the point…

And I don’t blame him.

Many of us when we first hit that post button always think in the back of our minds…

“What if this goes viral?”

However, we are often left with maybe a few likes. A comment or two. But nowhere near the engagement you hoped for.

But here's the truth most LinkedIn "gurus" won't tell you:

The real value of your content isn't in the likes or comments you can see. It's in the silent readers who never engage at all.

And these invisible lurkers? They're the ones who will eventually become your highest-paying clients.

Let me explain…

20k impressions in the last seven days… you never know who will need your help down the line

The Invisible ROI of LinkedIn

Most founders get LinkedIn all wrong.

They think it works like ads – post something amazing, get immediate leads, close deals.

But that's not how it works at all.

Here's what actually happens:

  • Someone sees your post today (but doesn't engage)

  • They see another next week (maybe they like it)

  • Three weeks later, they catch a third post

  • A month passes... they see a fourth, fifth, sixth...

  • Then ONE DAY, they need exactly what you offer

And who do they think of? YOU.

Not because of one viral post that spoke perfectly to their needs...

But because you've been consistently showing up in their feed, building credibility, and staying top-of-mind.

This happens to me all the time! Most of my clients aren't actually coming directly through my content. I'm getting them because of the credibility and social proof I'm building on LinkedIn.

Also one of my clients recently told me he went to a networking event, and someone approached him saying, "Yo, I love what you do. I was super inspired about one of your posts" – and boom, he closed another client right there.

When someone is ready to make a decision, you'll be the one they remember and choose.

The Truth About LinkedIn Content ROI

Most founders quit LinkedIn after a few weeks because they're looking at the wrong metrics:

❌ Likes
❌ Comments
❌ Direct messages

But the real metrics that matter are invisible:

âś… Credibility built over time
âś… Trust established through consistency
âś… Top-of-mind awareness when they're ready to buy

LinkedIn isn't about direct responses. It's about building your professional resume and social proof over time. Your content works in the background, convincing lurkers you're the expert they need.

It's those lurkers who just see your content, continue with their day, and just remember it.
Who will become your clients the easiest once the day becomes relevant.

The Long-Tail Effect in Action

Think about how YOU buy:

Ever see the same person show up in your feed consistently, sharing valuable insights related to their industry?

Then when you needed a service they offer, did you think of them first – even if you never engaged with their content?

That's the long-tail effect in action.

It's not about the immediate dopamine hit of likes and comments.

It's about creating content that:

  • Demonstrates your expertise

  • Shows your thought process

  • Proves you understand your clients' problems

  • Positions you as the obvious solution (without being salesy)

  • Is relevant to YOUR specific industry and audience

And then doing it CONSISTENTLY, knowing that the real ROI might not show up for months.

So next time your post only gets a few likes, remember:

For every person who engages, there are many more silently watching, reading, and forming an opinion about you.

And those silent observers will become your most valuable clients... when they're ready.

🧠 Founder Lesson

Leadership isn't about your title—it's about the trust you build.

When I served in the army, I quickly learned that rank alone doesn't equal influence.

Sure, some soldiers followed orders because they had to. But when we were out in the field at 3 AM, exhausted and waiting for direction, the ones who truly performed weren't just following rank.

They were the ones who trusted me.

Without that trust, people drag their feet, do the bare minimum, and just go through the motions. That doesn't work in high-pressure situations.

The same applies to business.

Being CEO doesn't automatically make you a leader. Authority gives you compliance, not commitment. If your team isn't bought into the vision, they'll do just enough to get by.

Real leadership focuses on connection. You need to:

  • Give people a reason to care

  • Help them understand why their work matters

  • Build genuine trust

  • Provide ownership opportunities

  • Invest in their growth

Otherwise, you don't have a team—you have a group of people just showing up for a paycheck.

That's not leadership. That's just management.

đź’° Windmill Updates

We've hit a milestone I'm incredibly proud of—100 clients!

And here's what's amazing: we're serving them BETTER than when we had 40.

Most agencies hit breaking points as they scale. More clients typically mean more bottlenecks, more delays, and more things falling through the cracks.

For us, it's been the opposite.

We've learned that scaling isn't just about hiring more people—it's about building better systems. We've been refining our operations, improving our SOPs, and focusing on speed without sacrificing quality.

When Windmill started, we were a scrappy LinkedIn growth agency. Now, we've evolved into a full-scale personal branding operation offering:

  • LinkedIn strategy & content

  • LinkedIn ads

  • And soon—our own SaaS tool (more to come on that!)

Growth isn't just about doing more. It's about doing it better.

I'm incredibly grateful for the team that's made this possible. From 4 team members to 17 full-time in just 9 months—the journey has been incredible, and we're just getting started.

That's it for this week's Windmill flow...

Keep showing up consistently. The results will come—even if you can't see them yet.

Chao!
